SECONDARY SCHOOL RELOCATION
Tuesday 20th February 2018
Dear Parents and Carers,
IMPORTANT: Move to New Premises and Additional Closure Days
for Clarendon’s Secondary Pupils
As you know we are soon moving from our current site. Our new Secondary Centre in Egerton Road, Twickenham is progressing well. We have now heard that the most likely date for the handover of the finished building is Monday 25th June 2018.
Unlike many new school builds, ours does not include all new furniture, ICT etc. This means that as well as all the teachers’ and curriculum resources, we also have to pack, move, unpack and set-up equipment, furniture, interactive whiteboards etc. As you can imagine, this is a major task!
Following consultation with AfC, we will therefore be closing to the secondary pupils for five additional closure days to enable staff to get the bulk of this work done and ensure as smooth a transition as possible for the pupils.
Please note that (subject to any change as a result of delays in the building programme) we will be closed to secondary pupils from Monday 2nd to Friday 6th July 2018.
Secondary pupils will therefore finish on our current site on Friday 29th June (which is also the last day of school for our Year 11 pupils) and return to our new site in Egerton Road, Twickenham on Monday 9th July 2018. They will then break up for the summer holidays at 3.00pm on Wednesday 18th July.
We are very aware of the disruption that such closures cause to families and wanted to give as much notice as possible of the most likely dates in order that parents and carers can make appropriate child care arrangements.
In addition, Wilmott Dixon, the main contractors on the secondary site, are holding an open day for parents to visit the building on March 24th. Places are limited, and will need to be booked in advance, via the link http://opendoors.construction/site/238
We have also been in touch with AfC regarding school transport. After the move, primary and secondary pupils will need to travel separately and a small number of secondary pupils’ eligibility for school transport may be changed by the move from our current site to the new site. The AfC transport team are working on this already.
Clarendon’s two new sites have been eight years in the planning, and we are all really excited that at long last the buildings are taking shape. I am confident that the new Secondary Centre will provide our older pupils with a much-improved learning environment, and that both pupils and staff will appreciate all the extra space!
