Clarendon also manages the Gateway Centre (a secondary provision for pupils with Autistic Spectrum conditions, attached to Twickenham Academy) and the Peripatetic Learning Support Assistant Team, whose members work alongside young people with disabilities in mainstream schools.
The philosophy of The Gateway Centre is to prepare our students for a life in which they are able to participate in and contribute to society, living as independently as possible, with meaningful employment and relationships.
We believe that the first step in this process is inclusion in mainstream school life and that this can be achieved by educating the school community about the strengths and difficulties of our students and by helping our students develop social skills, relationships and strategies which build confidence and resilience. We work with the main school staff, delivering INSETs, assemblies and working at an individual level to ensure a personalised understanding of our student needs. This is all supported by working individually with our students to help them develop social skills and self awareness through group and one to one sessions. We are constantly looking to add to what we provide to increase the effectiveness of our practices.
